Water Pipe Leak in Cincinnati, Ohio
This water pipe leak is the most challenging, due to the lack of ability to isolate the system. Most jobs have a water meter or shutoff valve outside the building so you can shut down the system to add compressed air and helium, to allow for better leak detection. This one had 7 large apartment buildings with one valve, so we would have had to shut down the entire complex to add compressed air and helium which wouldn’t be possible without a huge air compressor and a massive amount of helium. Unfortunately, a large number of apartment and condo complexes have very limited valving which makes the process less than perfect. For this project, the plumber had already started digging at a wet spot in the middle of the parking lot. He called me after realizing that the leak wasn’t there and that he might tear up a considerable amount of parking lot before finding it. All I could do for this job was listen to the system wet, which is the worst of all opportunities. Despite this, the leak was found and accurately located, 22 ft over from where the original wet spot appeared. Water Pipe Leak in Cincinnati, Ohio -found successfully!
