Pipe leak detection in Hamilton, Ohio. Emergency phone call from Gil Ruehl Plumbing on Friday requesting immediate leak location at a large box hardware store in Hamilton, OH. Upon arriving at the site I found the plumber had already determined a general area in the parking lot, roughly 1,000 ft away from the meter pit. It initially appeared that the 12″ fire protection main was leaking but after additional checking I found that the 2″ water service was also leaking. The store manager was able to provide drawings and we determined that both lines were running adjacent to each other. I could only perform wet listening because of the iniabilty to evacuate the fire protection line. Due to the incredibly high water pressure of 178psi, I was able to locate the line within a 2ft x 2ft area. The plumber asked me to stay in case the 2nd water leak location was elsewhere. As it turned out, the water leaks were right next to each other and my water leak location was within 12″! It was a pleasure to work with Gil Ruehl’s excellent excavating crew.
